Fan boys, geeks and comic book enthusiasts have a new place in the mid-West to unleash their inner nerd: The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2). The convention floor will be packed with vendors; with special screenings, panels and autograph sessions happening as well.
Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo: The Basics
The Chicago Comic & Entertainment was set up by Reed Exhibitions, the same company which launched New York Comic Con (NYCC) in 2006. (Reed Exhibitions is the world's leading event organizer.) Demand has been growing over the years for an Entertainment Expo in Chicago, so the Reed team has planned a major launch.
C2E2 will be held in Chicago from April 16th - 18th at the Lakeside Center at McCormick Place. The popular culture convention will open for professionals from 10am - 1pm. Public hours will be:
All attendees over 5 must have a ticket to attend. Single day tickets are $25 and weekend passes sell for $50. Tickets will cost more at the door--$30 for a single day and $60 for a weekend pass. On Sunday, children under 12 will be admitted for free.
C2E2 2010: Guest and Event Highlights
There are 170 special events, screenings and panels taking place at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. Some of the highlights include:
- Kick Ass, the story of an ordinary teenager who decides to be a super-hero opens in theaters on April 16th. The cast of the movie, based on the comic book of the same name, will be at C2E2 from 2 - 3pm that day signing autographs.
- An Evening With Neil Gaiman: Neil is the author of films, books and the graphic novel series The Sandman, and will be doing a theatrical reading. This is a benefit appearance happening at 7pm on April 17.
- The Star Wars celebration pavilion will offer an exclusive collectible t-shirt and appearances by Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Ray Park (Darth Maul) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) . Lucasfilm’s Steve Sansweet will talk about the past, present and future of Star Wars at 1:15pm on Saturday.
Autograph seekers will also have the chance to meet the cast of Ghost Hunters, Geoff Johns (DC comics writer), Alex Ross (DC and Marvel Comics writer) and many others. Artists will be appearing in the Artist's Alley throughout the weekend as well.
This April, The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo is set to rival the other big Comic Cons. Put on your super-hero costumes, be sure to bring a camera (to pose with all the other super-heroes) and be ready to get your geek on as a first time C2E2 attendee.
